While the book “White Noise”, by
Don Delillo was a very difficult I feel like I may have come away with a few
different themes or viewpoints that the author was trying to convey. The family in the book seemed like the
typical modern family, with two divorced parents marrying and sharing of
children, yet there seems to be a dark cloud hanging over this family. I am leaning towards the theme that the toxic
spill and infidelity was the authors’ way of expressing the dangers and our own
personal fears of what the future may hold for us.
This
is just a tentative theme that I am working on while I reread portions of the book
to see if I can get a different point of view that I may have overlooked the
first time. In the mean time any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
I think you might be on to something. The book goes back and forth between the fears of the future and the ignorance of dangers right in front of you.
ReplyDeleteI agree that with your theme and how it works in to the story. I believe that the author definitely is trying to show how there are personal dangers and fears but I also think that he is trying to express a bigger realm at the same time, almost like it's the world itself and how the world as a whole is, as well as personally.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Michelle. I also felt as though the first volume was almost like each chapter was about a different person in the family, like a type of introduction. I don't know if that makes sense, I see what you are saying about the dangers and personal fears in regards to the Toxic Event.
ReplyDeleteMichelle,
ReplyDeleteI like your view on the theme. This particular book seems to have many themes. They definitely seem like most families now days who have their secrets deeply hidden and haunting them till death. I am having a difficult time reading too. My best suggestion is to go read alone and give that book your undivided attention!
