Rhetorical Analysis

I picked the commerical for the Humane Society of America due to the emotional (Pathos) appeal directed at the audience they chose to reach.  Being an animal lover this commercial plays on the need to do something for animals that are being mistreated, abused, and neglected.  The down side to this commercial is the logic (Logos) of letting me believe that my $19 alone will help save countless of animals lives.  I think the argument for the fund raising would be more effective if they put a little more focus on the fact that if you donate you would be a part of a community or group effort to help save the animals and that together as a group, so much more could be done.

  1. I strongly agree with you that the mere donations help countless amounts of animals, however, I believe when they say that on the commercial, they are talking to everyone watching, not just one individual. That commercial definitely gets me and now my son and husband change it immediately if I'm in the room or will mute it so I don't here it. Very good points made. By the way, your commercial didn't come up...

  2. Michelle,
This is a perfect example for this assignment! The commercials that you see on television have so much emotional (pathos) appeal. I usually turn them because they are so sad and emotional! They really know how to grab your attention by playing slow sad music and then putting the horrible pictures of the abused animals up. I agree that the logic (logos) can be very misleading in these commercials however which can be a big downfall.
